Hybrid & Unique
Household Roles
Domestic Staffing for UHNW and High-Profile Principals
We Bring Yacht Crew Standards to Domestic Staffing
Not every staffing need fits a standard job description. Unusual requests, dual-role positions, and households with layered reporting lines, spanning the principal, family office, and outside vendors, are where we do our best work. We coordinate directly with everyone involved to build a role that actually functions inside your household, with post-placement support to ensure the right long-term fit.
Our founders spent decades working in private service on land and at sea, where flexibility is part of the job and exceptional service depends on knowing when to step in. We bring that same understanding to domestic staffing.
When your household needs a position built around its own rhythm rather than a standard title, our bespoke recruitment service focuses the search on professionals with the right range of experience to make it work.
We're Rachael and Nick,
the founders of Oceanside Staffing.
With decades of firsthand experience in private service both on land and at sea, we understand the nuances of luxury living and the importance of the right fit.
Rachael began her career over 20 years ago as a nanny in a private home, later growing into roles as a private educator, chief stewardess, and hiring manager. She understands what UHNW estates need to thrive and has built a vetted private network of domestic professionals ready to support principals nationwide.
Nick's path began in military service with Britain's Airborne Infantry, followed by 20 years as a yacht captain and later, an estate manager overseeing some of the Caribbean's most prestigious properties. His operational expertise and leadership in high-pressure environments makes him a steady, confident partner.
Together, we've built a boutique agency that approaches staffing with the same care and discretion you expect in your home. No matter the complexity of the role or the stringency of your requirements, Oceanside Staffing delivers. We can find the right placement for unique requests, difficult roles, and expedited hiring processes. Call us at (954) 636-7879 or email us at info@oceansidestaffing.us for a personal consultation.
The More Challenging the Staffing Project, The Greater the Reward for Us
The role you need may not have a conventional title, and that doesn't make it too difficult to fill. A principal might need an undercover driver-security professional, a Director of Special Projects for an estate, or someone whose responsibilities cross between a hybrid family office and multiple residences.
Oceanside starts by understanding how the position needs to function before deciding what to call it. That shapes our discreet recruiting process and where we look for the right person. As a boutique UHNW staffing agency, we're comfortable taking on searches that don't come with an obvious job title or candidate pool.

Common Hybrid Roles We Place
Household Manager / Personal Assistant
For a principal who doesn't need a full-time PA and a separate Household Manager, having one trusted person across both can actually simplify the day. This person might start the morning dealing with a vendor at the residence and spend the afternoon handling something personal for the principal.
Family Assistant (Nanny + Personal Assistant)
This role works around the children's schedule. While they're at school, a Family Assistant may tackle errands or help support the family needs that day. When the children come home, the focus shifts back to them. It can be a natural fit for someone who has a strong childcare background but enjoys being useful beyond the nursery.
Chief of Staff (for Family Offices & Private Households)
Family office on one side, private household on the other. In reality, the line between them isn't always so clean. A Chief of Staff can sit comfortably in the middle, handling the projects and decisions that touch both worlds and making sure nothing gets lost between them.
ROTA Nanny / Governess
Some families need more than traditional nanny coverage, particularly when education and frequent travel are part of the children's lives. A ROTA Nanny / Governess brings those needs together. Working on rotation also gives the family consistent coverage while allowing each professional genuine time off.
Estate Manager / Executive Assistant
We've seen how easily estate business can land on a principal's desk. Projects need decisions. Vendors need answers. Schedules change. An Estate Manager / Executive Assistant can take care of the property side while handling the administrative work that comes with it.
Yacht Crew to Estate Transition
This is familiar territory for Oceanside. Our founders came from yachting and private estates themselves, so we know how much experience can sit behind a yacht title. A captain, chief stewardess, or purser may already have many of the skills a private estate needs. The real work is knowing how to spot them.
Butler / Chauffeur
A household may value formal service but not have enough driving to warrant a dedicated chauffeur. That's where this pairing can work particularly well. The same person who knows the family's service preferences at home can continue that level of care when they're on the road.
Driver / Security
For principals who require an added layer of protection, a Driver / Security professional brings discretion and security awareness to every situation. The right person knows how to stay attentive without being intrusive. They provide a reassuring presence while preserving the privacy and ease expected in daily life.
Bookkeeping / Property
Management / Personal Assistant
This is exactly the kind of search where the job title comes second. Maybe there's bookkeeping every week, a property that needs someone keeping an eye on it, and personal requests that come up along the way. None requires a full-time hire on its own. Together, they can make a very sensible role for the right person.

FAQs About Hybrid & Custom Roles
-
Yes, when the two sides of the role naturally fit together, and there is enough time to do both well. A hybrid personal assistant, for example, might handle executive and personal support because the work draws on many of the same skills. A hybrid nanny or Family Assistant can shift to household needs while the children are at school.
Where it stops working is when several unrelated jobs are bundled together simply because one person is expected to handle them. Oceanside looks closely at the day-to-day reality of the position before beginning the search. If the workload doesn't make sense for one person, the role shouldn't be built that way.
-
A well-designed hybrid role brings together duties that make sense in the same position. The responsibilities are clear from the beginning, the schedule allows time for each part of the job, and compensation reflects the scope.
An overloaded role keeps adding responsibilities without making room for them. Asking a nanny to provide full-time childcare while also serving as a housekeeper and personal assistant, for example, creates competing priorities rather than a functional hybrid position. The distinction matters because even a highly capable private service professional cannot be in two places at once.
A bespoke recruitment agency can help define the role before the search begins, including when the better answer is hiring two specialists instead of looking for one person to do everything.
-
Often, yes. A hybrid position asks for a broader skill set than a single-focus role, and compensation should reflect the additional scope and experience required. The exact salary depends on the responsibilities, location, schedule, travel requirements, and seniority of the professional.
Combining responsibilities also shouldn't be viewed simply as a way to reduce household payroll. A thoughtfully designed hybrid role can make operations more efficient by placing related responsibilities with one capable person. Oceanside evaluates the full scope before beginning the search so expectations and compensation are appropriate for the caliber of candidate the position requires.

Some of the most unique searches we’ve worked on are roles that don’t fit neatly into a traditional job title.
One of my favorites was a search for a photographer, videographer, and art manager to help manage a family’s private collection. The client needed someone with a very specific creative skill set, but we were adamant that technical talent alone wasn’t enough—we needed someone who also understood private service, discretion, and what it means to work inside a private family environment.
It was a true ‘unicorn’ search, but we found that person. They’re still with the family today, and it’s a placement we’re incredibly proud of.
That’s what makes custom searches so interesting to us. Sometimes a client comes to us with a combination of skills that doesn’t really exist as a traditional job title. Our job is to understand what they actually need, identify which experience is non-negotiable, and then go find the person who brings all of those pieces together.

Discretion starts before we ever begin recruiting. We work with the client to determine exactly what information can be shared, what needs to remain confidential, and at what point additional details should be disclosed to a candidate.
We don’t need to advertise a principal’s identity—or every detail of their lifestyle—to attract the right people. Candidates are carefully vetted, confidentiality and NDAs can be incorporated into the process, and sensitive information is shared on a need-to-know basis.
Many of our clients have very public profiles or simply value their privacy, so discretion isn’t an added service for us; it’s built into how we recruit.
